What is the difference between a course and a workshop?

  • The structure.
    • Both Workshops and Courses have live recorded meetings. A copy of the recording is made available to everyone who has signed up. BUT this is all that workshops offer.
    • Courses also have an online course site where students will have additional resources in-between the live meetings. These resources can include
      • written articles
      • presentations
      • links to useful websites and articles on the Internet
      • additional audio and video resources
      • written discussion forums
      • quizzes to test your understanding
      • regular feedback from your instructor
      • and more.
    • Courses give you a chance to practice what you have learned between the live sessions with the other students in the course.
    • Courses let you receive direct feedback from the instructor over the length of the course in both oral and written form.
  • The basic approach.
    • Courses are designed with a focus on student learning. The instructors are not there just to tell you some information. Instead they want to help you take the next steps and incorporate what you have learned as part of your own toolkit.
    • Courses present more than one point of view. You will often have more than one instructor so you can see different perspectives and methods in action.
      • Even if you only have a single instructor, you will still be shown alternatives, controversies, and background so that you can make an informed choice.
    • Courses are designed to help you build your skills in evaluating new information. After a course is over,
      • We want you to be able to evaluate new information from books, articles, websites and other astrologers
      • We want you to have the background you need to decide what type of astrology you are going to practice
      • We want you to have the skills you need to spot where a new or old technique has limitations and what that may mean in practice.

Certificates are issued to recognize that students have delved into an area of study with more depth than can be offered by a single course. Most certificates require successful completion of 30 weeks of instruction.

Getting Started

If students want to hone their interpretative skills, they generally begin with the four natal studies courses (W101, W102, W103, and W104) in the certificate Astrological Fundamentals: Natal Astrology. This gives them the tools they need to analyze a natal chart, provide a clear interpretation and answer client questions.

Kepler has a variety of courses available throughout the year. Each term there will be a different group of offerings consisting of

  • 10-week courses in the core Fundamentals series (the Fundamentals of Natal Astrology and core courses for Movement and Forecasting)
  • Guided 5- and 10-week self-study courses which are self-paced but still have limited live interaction with the instructor
  • 5- and 10-week special interest courses that are offered only once or twice per year.

These courses are designed for students who want more than a casual astrological education and are serious about improving their skills. You can participate whether or not you can attend the live sessions (they are recorded for later review) or have the time to do all the work. Only those students who want to earn credits toward a specific Certificate or the Professional Diploma in Astrology need to successfully complete the required assignments.

The Fundamentals of Natal Astrology series begins with Fundamentals I: W101 An Introduction. This course gives students an understanding of the core symbols of the natal chart and the skills to layer them into a solid basic interpretation (a chart interpretation using just what they have learned is the final exam). The following courses in this series build on the core material to ensure students understand how to further synthesize and layer various techniques into an insightful and coherent natal chart interpretation, including being able to respond to common client questions. The Fundamentals series has six core courses essential for any astrological practice: four in natal chart interpretation and two covering a range of forecasting and prediction techniques.

All of our courses are open to interested individuals, although more advanced courses may require a specific level of astrological expertise to follow the material. If you do want to earn recognition for your effort:

  • Course certificate badges require a passing grade for a 5- or 10-week course.
Passing requires the successful completion of 70% to 75% of the material and usually requires between 8-12 hours of work per week.
  • Certificates require 20 - 40 weeks of instruction in a particular area of astrology
  • The Professional Diploma requires 130 weeks of instruction combining required courses and individual electives.
